Neighborhood Resilience Project

Healing Communities and Overcoming Trauma

Deliverables: Visual Identity, Website Design, Print Design

When Iraq War veteran Paul Abernathy returned to civilian life, he began working with the underserved communities of Pittsburgh — individuals who had experienced unfathomable traumas like homelessness, hunger, racism, and extreme violence. It became quickly apparent that these were not isolated incidents, but in fact everyday life occurrences shared by entire communities and endured for generations.

The Neighborhood Resilience Project was founded to intervene and respond to this collective trauma, knowing that it must be properly addressed and treated before communities could be healthy enough to overcome barriers and take on new opportunities.

My team and I worked with the organization’s leadership to develop a visual identity that captured the essence of their mission. With this came the design of a full website, miscellaneous print collateral, and training material.
