From Industrial Past to Sustainable Future: Branding & Evolving Monmade

Monmade began in 2016 to support regional craft manufacturers, designers, and entrepreneurial artists, with a vision to build a connected network, create a digital marketplace for their unique products, and link these creative professionals with commercial and residential developers. My team at Imagebox was drawn to the project and committed to helping it succeed, and my role began with building the brand from the ground up. Drawing inspiration from Pittsburgh’s manufacturing heritage, I worked with the client to develop a heavy, gritty visual identity anchored by a beautifully woven, hypocycloid‑inspired logo.

The Brand Evolution

Trends of sustainability and transparency in manufacturing had become increasingly more significant and in-demand by consumers. As the market evolved, so did Monmade. In 2020 I worked with the client once again to realign their visual brand to the organization’s new direction. We established a new brand aesthetic that was a departure from their darker industrial feel to something brighter and more in line with their commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness.

Website

With a new visual brand came a website update, but this effort was much more than a facelift. We redesigned the site from the ground up to reflect new strategies, increase user friendliness, and keep modern accessibility best practices in mind.
