From Historic Manufacturing to Modern Sustainability: Branding & Evolving Monmade

Monmade began in 2016 as a program to support regional craft manufacturers, designers, and entrepreneurial artists. The ultimate vision was to establish a network of these talented creative professionals, build a digital marketplace to feature their distinct products, and connect them with developers of commercial and residential properties. My team at Imagebox fell in love with the project and were immediately committed to helping them achieve their goals.

My involvement with Monmade began when I was tasked with helping them build their brand from the ground up. Tying in with Pittsburgh’s manufacturing past, I collaborated with the client to establish a heavy, gritty brand aesthetic with a beautifully woven hypocycloid-esque logo at its center.

Out With the Old, in With the Green: Monmade 2.0

Trends of sustainability and transparency in manufacturing had become increasingly more significant and in-demand by consumers. As the market evolved, so did Monmade. In 2020 I worked with the client once again to realign their visual brand to the organization’s new direction. We established a new brand aesthetic that was a departure from their darker industrial feel to something brighter and more in line with their commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness.

With this updated visual brand direction came a new website; completely rebuilt from the ground up. The new aesthetics were of course a priority, but this was more than just a facelift. New strategies, increased user friendliness, and modern accessibility best practices in mind. The old website certainly served its purpose of establishing a network, but the new website propelled Monmade on an exciting new course.
